Your departure to Cape Town is early afternoon so you have a leisurely morning for any last-minute activities that you may wish to do before your flight arriving in Cape Town early evening.
The drive from the airport to your accommodation in the DeWaterkant area is around 20 minutes and depending on the weather you may get to see the famous Table Mountain.
The city of Cape Town sits in a natural amphitheatre known as the city bowl and is on the shore of Table Bay surrounded by a dramatic mountainous range. Table Mountain is the centre piece flanked by Devil’s Peak and Lion’s Head. Cape Town is a visually a beautiful city and it was named as the best place in the world to visit by both The New York Times and The Daily Telegraph in 2014.
On the 6th April 1652, the first permanent European settlement was established on the arrival of Jan Van Riebeeck who represented the United East India Company (VOC). Its original purpose was as a supply station for the Dutch ships sailing to India, East Africa and the Far East. The city grew and for a long period it was the largest city in South Africa. As you walk through the town you can admire the Castle of Good Hope built between 1666 and 1679 to house the VOC personnel. A short walk away are the Company Gardens established in 1652 as a vegetable garden to supply the ships
Over the next week you will get to see many of the famous landmarks of Cape Town and first on your list tomorrow morning is a trip on the cable car to the top of Table Mountain.
